The video prompted calls to establish a syndicate for Imams to keep such acts in check.
Making the rounds this week is the video below; showing an Azhar Sheikh blasting out Qur'an verses accompanied with oriental music - an act which is not explicitly haram (as in there's no Qur'an verse or Hadith specifically addressing it). However, it has been shunned by Islamic scholars and Imams over the centuries.
The video, naturally, was met with strong backlash from religious figures; with calls to establish a syndicate for Imams to keep such acts in-check moving forward. The Sheikh and the location haven't been identified as of yet.
The incident comes a year after a Tunisian court sentenced British DJ Dax J to four years in prison, after he mixed the Muslim call to prayer into a tech music set while performing in a club in Northern Tunisia.
