Egypt's Customer Protection Agency is set to launch a comprehensive awareness campaign.

Egyptian Retailers Refusing Customer Returns Within 14 Days of Purchase Could Be Fined Up to EGP 500,000

Egypt's Customer Protection Agency has launched a campaign to familiarise the public with the recently-issued Customer Protection Law, which maintains a customer's right to return any purchased item within 14 days. Though this particular details has long been part of Egyptian customer protection laws, customers have been almost universally denied this right.

According to the law, returning a product within 14 days, without any need to provide reasons, is a fundamental customer right which the agency will protect by all means. If the product has a production fault or fails to deliver expected performance, then customers are entitled to return it within 40 days.

Retailers and merchants who refuse to comply with the law will be fined a figure between EGP 10,000 and EGP 500,000. In case of repeated offense, the fine will be increased.
