Hend Sabry Becomes First Arab Woman to Win Venice Film Festival’s Starlight Cinema Award

Tunisian-Egyptian actress, Hend Sabry, has become the very first Arab woman to be awarded Venice Film Festival’s Starlight Cinema Award – an honour that has previously been bestowed on the likes of legendary actor, Al Pacino.

Launched in 2014, the award is intended to recognise the work and achievement of actors, directors and producers, as well as film journalists and critics. Sabry attended this year’s Venice Film Festival – the 72nd edition – as a member of the jury for the Luigi De Laurentiis Award for a Debut Film.

Last seen on screens in this year’s The Blue Elephant 2 Sabry has long been held in high esteem in the film industry and her popularity and influence has seen her appointed as a UN Ambassador and named as one of the 100 Most Powerful Arab Women in 2013 by Arabian Business.
