This Cairene Man Offers His Apartment For Free to Impoverished Families of Cancer Patients

He also makes them food for the duration of their stay.

Parents and families of cancer-surviving kids from all around Egypt have, for years, fled to hospitals in Cairo to seek the best treatment and care their sons and daughters' need to get rid of the stubborn disease. While in the city, they'd usually find themselves forced to pay high rent for shelter in the nearby areas during their offspring's stay at the hospital.

Mostly impoverished and unable to afford such luxury, some of the families end up having to stay out on the street, a phenomena which prompted a Cairene butcher, namely Zaza Ogaz, to offer an apartment in his building to shelter said families for as much time as they may need, rent-free, according to a report by Reuters.

At the entrance of the apartment, children’s scooters can be found parked next to wheelchairs. Inside, the bedroom walls boast of iconic Disney cartoons, colorful paintings and a television for the kids. Om Israa, one of the parents of the cancer patients, explains how he welcomed her and her child and that he treats the children well, spoiling them with gifts and games.

Paying for the meals he provides to his guests, with money made in his shop, the 50-year-old butcher doesn’t accept any donations from the families and is doing this to help out his community and to honour the memory of his late mother and mother-in-law. Not all heroes wear capes, evidently.
